Choosing a holster for a pistol with a weapon light

If you run a weapon light, the holster has to be moulded around the pistol and the light together. Here is what that means in practice.

The holster is made for one pistol and one light

Every Highlander holster is moulded to a specific firearm and weapon light combination. If you change your light you need a new holster, so it is worth thinking about before you order if you are still deciding between lights.

Carry it with the light fitted

A light-bearing holster indexes and retains off the weapon light rather than the pistol, so it will not hold the pistol correctly without the light attached.

Which holsters take a light

  • Appendix IWB light-bearing: same claw, same three ride height positions, shirt tuckable, and the same colour and clip width options as the standard IWB. It is supplied with two J-clips rather than one.
  • OWB: for the range, the farm and open carry, with or without a light.
  • Level II duty: made to order for one specific firearm, and for the weapon light fitted to it if you run one.

Check your combination first

Each pistol has its own list of lights we mould for, and the list can differ between holster types. Check the Available Models page for your exact pistol and light before ordering. If yours is not listed, request it on that page and we will tell you where it sits in the queue.

Popular combinations: Glock 17 with Surefire X300, Glock 19 and 45, Canik METE SFX and CZ P-10C.

Lights tend to show holster wear before the pistol does. Read will a Kydex holster mark my pistol?
